Vocabulary is an important part of the English section because it is used to assess a candidate's understanding of various words. Vocabulary questions come in a variety of formats, including Antonym, Synonym, Cloze Test, Spelling Error, and Reading Comprehension, among others.



Vocabulary is one of those sections that cannot be mastered in a single sitting; continuous practise is required. The more words you know, the better you'll be able to comprehend what you hear and read, and the more effectively you'll be able to use it.

At least 4 to 5 questions from the vocabulary part appear on all competitive exams, including SSC  various state exams. Mark difficult words

While you are reading something, whether it is a newspaper or a book, you must have a dictionary on your side. Whenever you read a new or difficult word, you should mark it and check its meaning in the dictionary. 

Use dictionary apps : In this digital age, the use of online dictionaries or mobile apps can make your lives easier. There are both online and offline apps available nowadays which can be used to search words instantly, bookmark them, check meaning on the go, and improve your vocabulary. 

Read newspapers, books, articles : Reading the daily newspaper can significantly help you to improve your vocabulary. You can choose The Hindu, Times of India, or other top English newspapers. Along with newspapers, you can also read novels and other literary work. 

Practice previous years papers : You should go over the previous year's question papers as many times as feasible.

Mock tests : Mock examinations are an important aspect of any government exam preparation strategy.  Take daily or weekly practise exams to assess your readiness and prepare for the types of questions that may appear on the exam.

Play word games : Crossword puzzles, jumbled letters, scrabbling, etc., are fun to play while you learn and add new words to your vocabulary. Additionally, you can also take part in online quizzes and puzzles. 

Create sentences with new words : When you discover new or challenging words that are tough to remember, you should attempt writing sentences with them. This technique aids in the rapid memorization of words.

Use a diary:  keep a personal diary ready where you can scribble down new terms and their definitions. When exam time comes around, you can easily open this journal and read over it for review.
