How to Prepare for the IBPS PO Exam in General Awareness

The IBPS PO exam is divided into three stages:

IBPS PO Prelims is the first stage.

IBPS PO Mains (Stage 2)

IBPS PO Personal Interview (Stage 3)

Only the IBPS PO Main exam features a General Awareness portion with 40 questions worth one mark each. This section has been given a time limit of 35 minutes.

You either know the answer or you don't in the General Awareness portion, i.e. you have read it someplace or you haven't. Because the syllabus for the General Awareness exam covers such a broad range of topics, candidates frequently score poorly in this section.

But don't be concerned. This year's IBPS PO Main exam is set to take place in November 2021. So you've got plenty of time to prepare for this part. Just don't wait until the IBPS PO Prelims are complete to begin studying for this portion, which appears solely in the Mains test. The IBPS PO curriculum for General Awareness is the first thing you should learn. The entire curriculum can be broken down into three categories:

Sports, Science & Technology, Polity, Awards and Honors, Summits, Latest Budget, Business, Economy, and so on are among the topics covered. The majority of the questions will be about current events; you can expect 20-25 questions about current events.

Static General Knowledge: These questions test your knowledge of a variety of facts that will not change. History, Geography, Indian Constitution, Indian Parliament, Books and Authors, Countries – Capital/Currency, Culture, Sports and Trophies, Inventions and Discoveries are only a few examples of general themes. This type of question carries the least weight — expect 8-10 questions of this type.

Banking Awareness: Banking awareness questions could include a wide range of topics, including banking history, abbreviations, banking and financial institutes in India, Reserve Bank of India and its rules and regulations, bank rates, KYC, and so on. The paper will likely have 12-15 questions relevant to banking awareness.

I Make Reading a Habit

You will need to read a lot because the General Awareness part covers a wide range of topics. As a result, cultivate reading habits. All three categories of questions necessitate a substantial amount of reading. Read newspapers, current affairs publications, general knowledge books, and banking awareness books. You must read newspapers and publications on a daily basis to keep up with current events. You can also read the most recent yearbook from any reputable newspaper.

ii) Make a list of everything you want to remember.

Make a mental note of crucial dates, who's who, scheme names, acronyms, and other details when you read newspapers, periodicals, and other books. This will aid in improved retention. Additionally, the notes will be extremely beneficial to you in your studies.

iii) Watch television

Watch news networks on television every day. This will also improve your general knowledge. A daily bulletin can be found on a good news station. Watch a prominent Indian news station as well as important international news channels, such as CNN and the BBC. Make it a habit to watch the news every day. This will keep you up to date on current events and what's going on across the world while you're studying for your bank exam.

v) Review Previous Year's Questions

 Preparing for the IBPS PO General Awareness part requires a lot of practise with previous year's questions. This will give you a sense of the kinds of questions that will be asked in this part. You can then concentrate more on that type of knowledge when learning. Practice as many prior year questions as possible for Static General Knowledge. In reality, concentrate solely on questions from the preceding year. Spending too much time reading for Static GK is unnecessary because the number of questions asked from Static GK is very low. Focus on current events and banking knowledge.

v) Revise on a regular basis

You should revise on a frequent basis because this section requires you to memorise and retain a lot of information. You will forget and go blank in the exam hall if you do not do so. As a result, review the notes on a frequent basis. If taking notes seems time consuming, highlight key ideas while you learn and go over them again when editing.

vi) Read banking awareness books to get ready.

Read books that contain all of the most up-to-date information about general or current events. Choosing the right financial awareness books will undoubtedly aid applicants in learning the correct facts. This portion of General Awareness includes all current financial schemes, numbers, profits, and so on, and is not restricted to banking awareness books or static GK. As a result, applicants should make a note of which general and banking awareness books they will need for their preparation.

vii) Have Everything You Need Right At Your Fingertips

Although the syllabus for the IBPS PO General Awareness portion is extensive, and it is physically impossible to complete everything, make sure that whatever you do finish is done correctly, and that you have all the information you need on those areas. In comparison to the other two categories, the topics for Banking Awareness are rather limited. As a result, work tirelessly to complete them and memorise them.

viii) Be Consistent in Your Practice

To test your understanding of current events and general / financial awareness, you should practise questions and take quizzes on a regular basis. Mark the questions that you don't understand and go over them again later.

 ix) Don't Waste Your Time On This Section

Do not spend too much time on this part because it is highly unpredictable and has a large syllabus. At the same time, keep in mind that you must pass this section's cut-off to qualify for the IBPS PO Main exam. As a result, be ready.
